Blackberry Granita

IMG_1142

I’ve still got a lot of blackberries. First, let me be clear, I am not complaining. But I’ve got Ziploc bags full of blackberries in the freezer, so I’ve gotta do something with it all. So today I made blackberry granita. And, it was amazing.

I shamelessly stole the blackberry granita recipe from Epicurious. I used their recipe to make the granita itself; I combined in a food processor:

  • 4 cups blackberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon something-berry liqueur (I used raspberry)
  • pinch of salt

I obeyed the granita rules and forked the mixture around every 30 minutes after sticking it in the freezer. After a bit of time (read: after I went wine tasting) it was ready to go. I made some whipped cream to accompany it, and topped it all with some pistachios. It was phenomenal.

By the way, whipped cream is incredibly easy to make on your own. My husband and I make it in our Magic Bullet, but anything similar will do. Just combine some whipping cream and a bit of sugar. (For this recipe we put some lemon zest in as well). Once you combine it all, it takes about 30 seconds to become the right consistency. Boom. Done. Enjoy y’all! And excuse me while I get myself seconds.
