Homemade Plant Labels

I have a lot of potted plants and I’ve found myself needing a way to keep track of which pot is which. For the last year I’ve been crafting my own labels for my pots. I stick wooden skewers into old wine corks, which already have holes in them from the corkscrew. Then I wrap the corks with washi tape and paint them with a heavy coat of Mod Podge to protect them from the elements. And that’s it. I let them dry overnight and stick them into the soil of my pots.

For each pot that I have, I’ve outlined a page in my gardening journal with its washi tape, where I keep track of its history.

Over time the wooden skewers decompose and the washi tape fades, but I get at least 1-2 years before it becomes an issue and the label needs replacing. And considering they are so easy to make, I don’t mind whipping up a fresh batch in the winter months when my garden is a bit slower anyways.
